Located in Minneapolis from 1968-2009
Among the many things this local hot spot was known for, two of the more prominent ones were the very strong cheap drinks and the bartenders ability to create these no matter what the customer actually wanted.
If you asked for water, you would be greeted with a stiff drink with a single ice cube in it. After all, what difference would the water actually make? At this bar, you drank the way you were told to and you liked it.
There are old tales of how Stand Up Frank's got its name. Maybe it was the night crew from the factory nearby who would show up at 8am and stand in line for their free drink at open. One could argue that you wouldn't be able to stand by the end of the night because they had the strongest and cheapest drinks in town. The most literal idea for the name? When they first opened, the bar had no stools. If you wanted to drink, you stood.
It was the place to be for late night stories, strong drinks and bets on bumper pool and pull-tabs. There are even some legendary tales that you may hear if you ever talk to a regular!
They finally closed up shop in 2009 and the windowless joint was replaced by a zombie bar that eventually shut down in 2017.
